Hollywood's annual self-congratulatory season may have just come to a close with the Academy Awards ceremony, but I think there are still a few more golden statues to give out. This year marked the time when UC solutions really came into their own and started showing businesses just how effective they can be.
They may not have their moment in the spotlight, but some UC features deserve accolades all the same. Here, for the First Annual Communications Awards, are my acceptance speeches (delivered in absentia, since they can't exactly speak for themselves) for the best and brightest in business communications.
Best Supporting Feature: Fax to Email
I just want to thank all my friends and family for helping me turn one of the oldest forms of business communication into a bona fide advantage. I didn't do it for the accolades: I did it so that people don't have to spend an hour sitting next to a loud fax machine waiting for important documents to come through from clients. Now they can keep working on their computer and instantaneously receive an message containing the faxed information, so they can check it in between instant messages and listening to podcasts. The award sure is nice, but I did this for my fans!
Best Newcomer: Mobile VoIP
I may be young, like a cloud-based Haley Joel Osment, but I'm probably the future of this industry. Wow, big thanks to the Unified Communications Academy - this has been a huge year for me. I'm still a little wet behind the ears, yet an increasingly mobile workforce being able to use me on the go has all kinds of practical implementations in the future. It's just a matter of time before you see my name in lights.
Best Feature: Videoconferencing
What an honor this is! People had a hard time accepting me in the past, but we sure showed them, didn't we? I want to thank the recent advances in video-chat hardware and software for making me more feasible for the average business; I want to thank tablets and smartphones for enabling me to be used by remote employees; and, most of all, I want to thank my friend and mentor audio conferencing for first showing everyone how cloud-based telephony solutions can increase productivity and promote collaboration with people spread out all over the world. Thank you, and good night!
