Flu and cold season has hit especially hard in 2018. It just seems to keep coming around. The offices are lined with hand sanitizer, disinfectant and the echo of suspect coughing.
Some ways you can avoid spreading the flu and cold in your office is basic hygiene:
- Wash your hands often. And don’t skip the soap!
- Try not to touch your nose, mouth, or eyes.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes. Cover your face with your upper sleeve or a tissue–and be sure to throw the tissue out immediately.
- Use hand sanitizer or wash your hands every time you cough, sneeze, or blow your nose.
- Use your elbow. Who wants to shake the hand of someone who has just sneezed all over it? Teach employees to cough into their elbows instead.
- Avoid shaking hands or close contact with others during flu season.
- Avoid using other employees’ equipment like phones, computers, headsets, etc.
Your office phones are a hot bed of germs, and the “usual” way of cleaning them might not be enough.
In his research on office germs, Charles Gerba, professor of microbiology University of Arizona, found that the phone is the single dirtiest part of the office. "Apparently, nobody ever cleans or disinfects an office phone," he says.
Just think of everything your hands touch during the day. That makes your office phone potentially dirtier than the toilet seat!
It’s tempting to break out a disinfectant wipe to tackle the job. But, did you know disinfectant wipes are harsh to your phone and may cause damage? There is a better way.
We caught up with PhoneSoap, a revolutionary product, recently featured on Shark Tank.
The innovators at PhoneSoap tell us how it works:
When you want to clean your phone (or anything else that fits inside), put it in your PhoneSoap and close the lid. For a 10-minute cycle, a powerful UV-C light kills viruses, bacteria and other harmful germs. When the light goes off, your clean phone is completely clean. They have small products for cell phones, but NetFortris was able to fit our office phones in their “locker” product. Check out how it works:
This light is effective in destroying nucleic acids and breaking apart germ DNA. With their DNA broken, they can't function or reproduce and the organism dies. UV-C that causes this germicidal effect is rare on Earth as our atmosphere blocks it.
This light is harmful for our eyes, hence why it must be done within PhoneSoap's controlled environment. You will never see the UV light that is killing all those germs, but an external blue indicator on PhoneSoap Charger will let you know when your device is being sanitized. With powerful UV-C light inside, PhoneSoap has a deadly effect on microorganisms such as pathogens, viruses, bacteria and others.
Bottom line here, none of us have the time to be sick. If a quick 10 minute cycle can help destroy one of the largest under-detected causes of office-ick, it's worth it!
And while you're phone is getting a nice little cleanse, use our HUD application to instantly forward your desk phone to your mobile phone and never miss a call.
