Here’s what 2016 holds for Fonality

David_Scult_2016_-_Blog.pngThis is the year for Fonality.

This is the year we will add more features and integrations than any other year in our history. This is the year we will expand the definition of unified communications (UC). And this is the year we accelerate our company growth and our leadership in software as a service (SaaS) and cloud VoIP phone systems.

How can I be so certain about 2016? We got the ball rolling in a big way in 2015.

We broke every company record – revenue, profitability, and subscription growth. I’m proud of the new customers reflected in those results. Just as important, I’m proud our customers stay with us more than they stay with others in the industry. And that they see value in purchasing additional services – more than half did so last year.

The reward for going another way

None of this seemed certain as we entered 2015. While we were pleased with Fonality’s momentum heading into last year, we were faced with an increasingly competitive and fragmented landscape. More companies in the industry’s target market became more and more comfortable with the cloud. By one count, there are at least 200 players ranging from local providers to global leaders like Fonality. Some competitors were trying to combat this – and us – with massive marketing budgets and loss-leading offers.

We went another way. We chose to focus on value and our differentiators. We doubled down on customer retention. We refined our marketing, sales, and support; and we enhanced our infrastructure and product portfolio, the centerpiece of which remains our award-winning Heads Up Display™ UC suite for web and mobile. HUD for short.

People noticed. Our 2015 results announcement covered the details (Read it here.) I’ll highlight just one because it says it all. PCMag recognized us as their Editors’ Choice for business VoIP 2015. And why not?

A transformation realized

All of this – especially that all-important profitability – came about because of the work we’ve done in recent years to transform our business model. We led the way from traditional PBX systems – which ask companies to cough up huge capital investments every few years – to cloud-hosted services. Our monthly subscriptions make modernizing your business phone system affordable and scalable while adding productivity tools older systems just can’t. That leads to predictable, recurring revenue for us. By last year, 85 percent of our revenue already came from subscriptions. I expect that to keep growing.

What does all this mean for 2016? We’ll invest even more in accelerating our growth. We’re to build in new features and new integrations that will make using HUD Web and Mobile an even richer experience. That’s important because, while plenty has changed in the way companies acquire customers, nothing beats the competition like a better solution for meeting customer needs. And I’m confident when I say the news you’ll hear from us this year will change the game.

Thank you to our customers, partners, and the Fonality team for your support during our milestone year. Here’s to another one!
